What is Spindle Bobbins Crash Protection?

The black bobbins sit snugly either side of the front spindle, held in place by a rolled-thread spindle rod. At the rear, the spindle bobbin projects from the wheel offering protection to the swingarm, an anodised red hub stop securing the stainless steel rod in place.
